ISLAMABAD: Chief Election Commissioner Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim on Monday said that in spite of the Supreme Court's verdict on the Asghar Khan petition, the election commission could not initiate proceedings against the concerned politicians, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives in Islamabad, Ebrahim lauded the apex court's ruling but said the ECP's rules did not allow it to proceed against politicians accused of taking bribes.

Ebrahim moreover said that no reference had been forwarded by the Senate's chairman to the ECP on the issue of Rehman Malik's possible disqualification.

He added that the commission had also not made a decision pertaining to proceedings against the minister.

Referring to his meeting with Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry, Ebrahim said the chief justice had assured him of appointing judicial officers during the general elections.

No one in this whole country seem to understand that why Hon SC did not take actio. Against Noora League when it received written on oath affidavits against them. This is not fair. The only reason comes to mind is that Arsalan might have saved Noora League

Punish the accused generals now that the court has convicted them of interfering in the election process so in future generals dont think they will not be accountable for taking away the right to fair elections of the Pakistani people. Dont hold the election process hostage once again to suit the wishes of the generals!

Unless you clean house, the dirt will just keep shifting around and reappearing over time. The judiciary should require NAB to come up with the list of politicians who are accused of taking bribes within a time period. Then these politicians should be given time to respond in defense. I can assure you all of them have dirty money and blood on their hands. Barr them from contesting elections until they clear theri names in a court of law, Otherwise we will continue this circus of probes going nowhere and none being held accountable.

I am sorry to say that I do not agree with Fakhrudin Ebrahim on this issue, all politician involved in taking the bribe and conspire against the fair elections should be barred from taking part in the elections for life. If we allow these corrupt politicians then we have to allow criminals in jails to take part in elections to be a member parliament.

So what is the purpose of this case ruling, does CJ want us to to stay busy talking on the issue so he can delay His son's cases and put on back burner? And keep panishing poor people who may have stole to feed thier children and let go rich who has stolen billions from us like Nawaz Sharif family and others....... Munafeqeens has taken over on Pakistan?

In the aftermath of the supreme court decision it has now come on record that the so called politicians are willing to sell their loyalties for money and this despite the fact that they are among the richest of people by virtue of looting the wealth and resources of our beloved country Pakistan. The full might of the law should be unleashed to prosecute perpetrators of this heinous corruption against the people of Pakistan. An example needs to be set by disqualifying all politicians guilty of corruption for ever and thereby cleansing the pakistani political landscape of thieves and dacoits proclaiming themselves to be politicians.
