Zooming in

This is with reference to the section Zooming in. I like it very much and want to request that you give one whole page for such interesting photos from around the world. As they say a picture can say more than a thousand words, in the same way, pictures such as those in Zooming in give a lot of information in such a small space and that too in an interesting manner.

It is a fact that most of us don’t want to read very long, full-page articles and so we prefer such interesting photos that tell us so much and have a simple, short text giving the detail.

The banana peel

This is regarding the story The banana peel by Gulrukh Tausif (YW, September 15, 2012 ). The story teaches a valuable lesson to all those who play tricks on others. Such callous people one day become victims of their own tricks!

Books and the internet

This is with reference to the letter Book and internet by Imran Aleem (YW, October 6, 2012 ). It’s true — as the writer mentioned — that internet is an easier way to dig out information.

Books give us limited knowledge while internet is a sea where you can find thousands of websites on almost all subjects and that too, without spending so much time because surfing is quite easy as compared to looking for books on any subject in a library.

It’s how you say it

This is with reference to the article It’s how you say it that matters by Ahmed Altaf (YW, October 6, 2012 ).The article was worth reading! It not only gave us useful information but also gave us very important tips to improve our speaking power. The writer and the Young World team deserve appreciation for printing such a useful article.

I would like to mention some more points about ‘speaking’, which is the most effective way of communication. It is always imperative to think before you speak. Be careful about what you are saying to someone so that you don’t have to regret it later.

Selection of the right words plays a key role in delivering an effective speech. Also try to speak politely and clearly — your speech must reflect the clarity of your mind on the subject you are talking about.

II

This is with reference to the cover story It’s how you say it that matters by Ahmed Altaf (YW, October 6, 2012). I would like to add that in addition to all the points that the writer put forward as important for saying things in a way to make an impact on the listeners, we must be polite, we must use refined words and say them in a nice way so that it is pleasing to the listeners.

Many a times, the well-meaning intentions of people are taken in the wrong way by the harsh and rude manner in which they say things. So we must have a refined manner of speaking, but it is sad that few people, maybe only those of the older generation, have a dignified speaking style. And the youth are more fascinated by slangs and a street-smart style of speaking which they consider ‘cool’ and they even use it while speaking to elders.

Thus, I request all my fellow readers to please be very mindful of your language and style of speaking as it defines who you are and tells much about you and the family background you are coming from.
