QUETTA, Oct 15: A division bench of the Balochistan High Court directed the police on Monday to help the Quetta Metropolitan Corporation (QMC) and Cantonment Board in their campaign against encroachments along the Habib and Durrani drains.

The bench comprising Chief Justice Qazi Faez Isa and Justice Naeem Akhtar Afghan directed the SHOs of City, Quaidabad and New Sariab police stations to conduct raids to detain people selling drugs along the drains.

There are a total of 136 encroachments along the Habib drain, according to a report submitted in the court by petitioner Abdul Wahab’s counsel Hadi Shakeel Ahmed and QMC’s law officer Riaz Ahmed.

When the counsel said there was nothing on the QMC’s record about the permission for raising those structures, the bench said the QMC and Cantonment Board would be within their right to remove the encroachments.
