ISLAMABAD: National Assembly on Friday adopted two resolutions aimed at bringing the estranged Baloch leaders into mainstream politics and reviewing the oil prices on monthly instead of weekly basis.

The resolution moved by the opposition MNA Zahid Hamid were adopted unanimously as the members from different political parties in the House had already evolved consensus on the language of resolutions moved after suspension of rules.

The resolution on Balochistan stated that the House was deeply conscious of the situation in the province and calls for broader political reconciliation and ensure active participation of political leaders and parties from Balochistan to mainstream politics for national development and empowerment of masses.

The House also resolves to efforts for improvement of law and order in the province and remove impediments on way to progress.

It further recommended to constitute an all parties commission comprising the political parties within the parliament and outside to contact estranged leadership for bringing them into political process and convince to participate in the upcoming general elections.

According to the resolution it was also stressed to take genuine decisions to rectify past mistakes and bound the commission to present its recommendations to the House within a time of one month.

The other resolution adopted by the House called upon the government to review petroleum prices on monthly basis instead of weekly.

The resolution stated that fluctuating petroleum prices replicate in increase of certain commodities prices and add to suffering and miseries of people besides affecting the industry, agriculture and transport sector.

The resolution stated that weekly review also result in uncertainty, therefore this system should be replaced with monthly review mechanism.

The House also resolved to review the taxes on petroleum products in light with the statement of the Advisor to the Prime Minister in the Senate.

Earlier, explaining the mandate of the commission on Balochistan, Leader of the Opposition, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan appreciated the cooperation of all parties in the House to make these resolutions unanimous.

He said the parliamentary commission on Balochistan will not interfere in the jurisdiction of already constituted committees for the province rather it will supplement and compliment the performance of those committees.

He said it is not political point scoring as both the issues, Balochistan issue and the petroleum prices are worrisome for the people and the political parties.

He also claimed that petroleum prices at present were not in conformity with the prices in international market and needed a review.
