PESHAWAR, Oct 11: The relatives of the two young men, whose bullet-riddled bodies were found in Daudzai area the other day, held a protest demonstration here on Thursday.
The protesters placed the bodies on Sher Shah Suri Road outside Peshawar Press Club and blamed security agencies for picking and killing the young men.
They alleged that a group of people riding official vehicles picked three people —Ajmal Khan, Lal Rehman and Khushal — from a marriage party in Riaz Garhi Bakhshi Pul area on Sunday. All of them remained missing since then, they said.
The protesters said that local police were contacted repeatedly to get any clue to the missing persons. Police avoided giving them any kind of information, they added.
“We saw the photos of the two bodies in a newspaper on Thursday morning and identified them as our relatives, Ajmal Khan and Lal Rehman,” they said, adding that Khushal, the third person, was still missing.
They blamed police and security agencies for picking and killing their relatives. Ajmal was a rickshaw driver while Lal Rehman was a daily wager at gur market, they said.
The protesters said that the deceased had done nothing wrong. It was duty of the government to tell them as to why the deceased were picked and killed, they said. They demanded arrest of the killers.
Raees Khan, a brother of Ajmal Khan, said that they were busy in his wedding ceremony where all of their relatives, friends and villagers had come together when armed men in plainclothes, apparently seemed policemen, dragged the three youth and bundled them into official vehicles.
He said that his brother had also Rs50,000 in his pocket when he was picked by the armed persons along with the two other men.
“We belong to Mohmand Agency but live in Bakhshi Pul area. We have no affiliation with any of the militant organisations,” Mr Khan said.
He appealed to Peshawar High Court Chief Justice Dost Mohammad Khan to take notice of the killing of the innocent people and help arrest the killers. He also criticised police for not giving them information about the whereabouts of the missing persons.
Police didn’t bother to keep the bodies in the local mortuary for identification rather buried them immediately, he said. “We exhumed the bodies after identifying them with the help of photos published in newspaper,” he added.
Mr Khan said that they were concerned about the safety of the third missing person, Khushal, as they had no information about him. He demanded of the government to ensure his safe recovery at the earliest.
Chanting slogans against the government, the protesters blocked the main road for about one hour to traffic that caused problems and hardships for commuters.
The officials at the police station concerned, when contacted, said that they buried the deceased as there was no identity card or any other paper in their pockets.
