LAHORE, Oct 6: Hundreds of workers and supporters of Pakistan Tehrik-i-Insaaf on Saturday left Lahore to participate in Waziristan Peace March beginning from Sunday (today). The PTI workers and supporters led by Mian Mahmoodul Rasheed were carrying party flags, banners and placards bearing inscriptions against US drone strikes in tribal areas of

Pakistan. They also chanted slogans against the Pakistan government and drone strikes.

The PTI caravan, which moved from party’s Lahore secretariat on Jail Road, had workers from different provincial and national assemblies’ constituencies in Lahore. The participants included Farooq Amjad Mir, Jamshaid Iqbal Cheema, Chaudhry Asghar Gujjar, Murad Ras, Sheikh Imtiaz, Gulraiz Iqbal and others.

Speaking to the caravan participants, Mian Mahmood said the Pakistan government’s double standards had also been exposed as on the one hand it condemned drone strikes and on the other hand was creating hurdles in PTI’s peace rally.

In Mianwali, speaking to a gathering at Ikram Shaheed Chowk, PTI chief Imran Khan said: “The peace march is just to show solidarity with innocent people of Waziristan and to inform the world about destruction there. Our political leaders are cowards and had no courage to raise voice against atrocities being committed by American drone strikes.”

He urged the people to support him for this noble cause.

The peace rally reached Mianwali in the evening about a couple of hours late.

From Mianwali, a large caravan led by ex-MNA Inamullah Niazi and Ayla Malik also joined the rally.

A PTI caravan left Vehari for DI Khan on Saturday afternoon.

District organiser Tahir Anwer Wahla led the caravan.

Talking to newsmen here on Saturday, he said over 500 people from the district would participate in the peace march.

Merging for what?

The concern is that if the government is thinking of cutting costs through the merger, we might even lose the functionality levels we currently have.
