GILGIT, Sept 25: A 16-year-old boy and a 14-year-old girl were shot dead in the name of honour here on Tuesday.

The boy was shot dead while on way to home in Samaigal village of Darel valley after the assailants killed the girl on suspicion of illicit relations, police said.

Police said the motive behind the double murder was ‘sheer damage’ to the honour of girl’s family due to the illicit relations the two had developed over the course of months.

The police had yet to arrest the killers. The police identified the deceased boy and the girl as relatives.

The police said the boy and girl were the youngest among those so far killed in the name of honour. A police party had been dispatched to the area for legal action.

The bodies were buried without postmortem in accordance with the wishes of the two families.

According to centuries old local traditions, such murders often go unpunished as families do not pursue such cases in courts.
