WASHINGTON: The US Senate has rejected a move to cut American assistance for Pakistan and other countries as lawmakers opposed Senator Rand Paul's campaign on the issue.
Paul, a Republican from Kentucky, forced a vote on his amendment to cut US aid to Pakistan, Libya and Egypt, but the Senate overwhelmingly defeated the measure it by a vote of 81-10.
According to VOA, Paul said he did not expect the measure to pass but wanted to press his point. The measure would have required Pakistan to release an imprisoned doctor, Dr Shakil Afridi, who worked for the CIA to identify al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden.
