KABUL: A suicide bomber blew himself up in a crowded main square in the northern city of Kunduz, killing at least 15 people, an Afghan official said.

A spokesman for the Kunduz provincial governor Enayatullah Khaliq said the blast took place Monday.

He had no other details.

Governor Mohammad Anwar said the bomber was on foot and blew himself up next to a group of police officers.

The capital has the same name as the northern province.
