LAHORE, Sept 8: The PPP will move the Supreme Court against the (PML-N’s) Punjab government’s opposition to the local election. The PML-N insists it is ‘inappropriate’ time to go for local polls prior to the general election.
Opposition Leader in the Punjab Assembly Raja Riaz will file a petition in the apex court. “The SC had ordered the Punjab government to hold the local elections but it is not complying with its orders,” he told reporters on Saturday.
Meanwhile, Governor Sardar Latif Khosa told media men on Saturday it was the right of the people of Punjab to take part in the local polls. He said the PML-N was running away from the polls for fear of defeat.
PML-N Senator Pervaiz Rashid told Dawn all political parties were not ready for the local election. “The PTI and the JI are opposing it. If the PML-N wins the election, the other parties will allege rigging,” he said. — Staff Reporter
