KOHAT, Sept 7: A swollen rainwater stream swept away a child near the graveyard, while water inundated houses in Qureshabad area after heavy rainfall here on Friday.

Residents said that Bakhtiar, 13, was playing near the stream when he slipped into the water and was swept by strong currents.

Local volunteers later pulled out his body from the stream.

The stream, located behind the fruit and vegetable market, remains choked due to dumping of perished edibles in it. Rainwater also entered into houses in Qureshabad area and destroyed household items of poor people.

The residents said that the stream was flooded every year during monsoon rains and they had been asking the tehsil municipal administration to build safety wall around it in residential areas, but of no avail.

They said that the child lost his life, as the TMA did not pay attention to their appeals.
