KARACHI, Sept 1: A sessions court sentenced on Saturday a man to life imprisonment in a murder case.

Noor Zaman was found guilty of killing his relative Rasool Bakhsh over a petty dispute in August 2006 within the remit of the Model Colony police station.

The additional district and sessions judge (east), Tariq Mehmood Khoso, pronounced the judgment after recording testimonies of witnesses and final arguments from both sides.

The court imposed a fine of Rs50,000 and in case of non-payment the convict would undergo an additional six-month imprisonment.

He was also ordered to pay Rs300,000 in compensation to the legal heirs of the deceased.

The court in its judgment observed that all prosecution witnesses, including an eyewitness, had fully supported the case and their evidence was corroborated by the medical and other documentary evidence.

Therefore, the prosecution succeeded in proving its case against the accused beyond a shadow of a doubt, it concluded.

According to the prosecution, the suspect and the deceased were relatives and they had a dispute over an electricity pole and on Aug 17 the suspect attacked the victim with a stick leaving him severely injured.

Later, the victim died from his injuries. The suspect was apprehended a couple of days after the incident.

A case (FIR No.97/06) was registered against the suspect under Section 302 (punishment for premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code on the complaint of the deceased’s brother at the Model Colony police station.

The accused was produced before the court in custody and the judge remanded him back to prison along with a conviction warrant to serve out the remainder of his sentence.
