LAHORE, Aug 30: PML-Q MPA Samina Khawar Hayat escaped unhurt on Thursday when robbers opened fire at her vehicle when she chased them near Liberty Market.

DIG (Operations) Rai Muhammad Tahir told Dawn two robbers were trying to run away after snatching a purse from a woman near Liberty Chowk.

Ms Khawar with her driver and guard witnessed the robbery and started chasing the runaway suspects.

The suspects snatched a motorcycle and fled towards Husain Chowk. As the MPA’s driver chased them, the suspects hit a cart and fell.

One of the suspects was injured while the other ran away taking cover of fire. The firing left two passersby identified as Shahbaz and Akram injured. The MPA’s vehicle also came under fire but remained safe.

The DIG said soon Mohafiz Police also arrived at the scene and took the suspect, identified as Ahsan Butt, into custody.

He said a Rescue 1122 ambulances shifted the three injured to Services Hospital.
