ISLAMABAD, Aug 29: The Ministry of National Food Security and Research has formed a sub-committee to monitor the wheat situation on a regular basis.

The decision was taken at the review meeting here on Wednesday which was chaired by Secretary National Food Security, Ahmad Baksh Lehri. All stakeholders will be involved in the monitoring mechanism, it was decided.

The meeting also reviewed the overall availability of wheat as well as the public sector wheat stock position.

The meeting expressed satisfaction that the country has surplus wheat stocks and wheat export after significant increase in the international market has appreciably improved.

It was decided that the ministry of national food security in consultation with provincial agricultural departments would ensure that adequate arrangements would be in place during the coming Rabi season, and growers would be encouraged to bring more areas under wheat cultivation to enhance the production.

The meeting stressed that coordinated efforts would be required to ensure availability of agricultural inputs like fertiliser, herbicides and agricultural credit.
