ISLAMABAD: Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf will appear before the Supreme court on Monday to answer questions over the NRO implementation case, said the Presidency in a released statement.

A high-level meeting of government officials and coalition partners was held at the Presidency on Sunday, in which the decision was made.

The statement also further said that the prime minister will go to the Supreme Court alongside cabinet ministers and coalition partners.

Prime Minister Raja Pervez Ashraf was issued a notification to appear before the Supreme Court regarding writing a letter to Swiss authorities over the reopening of cases against President Asif Zardari.

The meeting of government and coalition parties held the view that under the Constitution, the president has immunity from prosecution and that writing a letter  to Swiss authorities would go against the presidential immunity.

The statement from the Presidency also said that the government had decided the letter will not be written under any circumstances.

It was also announced that the prime minister will present his view in the Supreme Court with his legal team.

A delegation of the ANP and MQM were present at the meeting held at the Presidency in Islamabad.

Law Minister Farooq Naek briefed the meeting regarding the case. He said that the Supreme Court should respect the mandate of the Parliament.

Farooq Naek also said that the state institutions should operate within their own constitutional ambit.
