LONDON, Aug 25: Robin van Persie superbly smashed in his first Manchester United goal on his first start in a 3-2 Premier League win at home to Fulham on Saturday.

Former Arsenal man Van Persie, a substitute for United’s opening 1-0 loss at Everton last Monday, fired in a trademark volley from Patrice Evra’s cross on 10 minutes to cancel out Damien Duff’s shock early opener for Fulham.

United then took control with Japan’s Shinji Kagawa scoring on his home debut in the 35th and Rafael Da Silva heading the third in the 41st.

Fulham clawed one back in the second half through Nemanja Vidic’s own goal in the 64th, but despite several shaky moments from goalkeeper David De Gea, United held on for their first victory of the campaign.

Everton, often hampered by slow starts to the season, maintained their 100 percent record with a 3-1 win over 10-man Aston Villa.

South Africa midfielder Steven Pienaar gave David Moyes’ side the perfect start as he struck from 25 minutes in the third minute at Villa Park.

Marouane Fellaini, the goal-scoring hero of Everton’s surprise victory over Manchester United, increased the lead with a 31st minute header that eluded Villa goalkeeper Shay Given too easily.

Any thoughts of Villa avoiding their second successive defeat under new boss Paul Lambert were ended just before the break when Croatia striker Nikica Jelavic swept home a Leighton Baines cross.

To add insult to injury for Villa, defender Ciaran Clark earned a straight red card for a professional foul on Jelavic in the second half.

Karim El Ahmadi’s first goal for Villa in the 74th minute was little consolation for the hosts.

Andre Villas-Boas was denied a first win as Tottenham manager as James Morrison’s late goal clinched a 1-1 draw for West Bromwich Albion at White Hart Lane.

Benoit Assou-Ekotto struck for Tottenham in the 74th minute with a deflected shot, but Steve Clarke’s side levelled through Morrison in stoppage-time.

In the earlier kick-off, rampant Swansea City made it two wins out of two in the fledgling Premier League season after promoted West Ham United gifted them two goals in a 3-0 victory.

Michael Laudrup’s side thrashed QPR 5-0 at Loftus Road last weekend and they turned on the style again to go top of the English top-flight for the first time in 30 years thanks to goals from Angel Rangel, Michu and Danny Graham.

Elsewhere, Wigan Athletic held off promoted Southampton to claim a 2-0 away win that took Roberto Martinez’s side into the top half of the Premier League table.

It took the Latics until November to claim their first away win last season but they took the three points at St Mary’s Stadium thanks to goals in each half from Franco Di Santo and Ivorian new signing Arouna Kone.

In other games, Norwich City and Queens Park Rangers drew 1-1 and Sunderland’s game with Reading was postponed before kickoff due to a waterlogged pitch.

Results: Swansea 3    West Ham 0 Aston Villa 1    Everton 3 Manchester United 3    Fulham 2 Norwich 1    Queens Park Rangers 1 Southampton 0    Wigan 2 Tottenham 1    West Bromwich Albion 1—Agencies
