LAKKI MARWAT, Aug 18: The Pakistan Wapda Hydro Central Electric Labour Union workers on Saturday met to make plans for accelerating campaign against defaulters and overcoming line losses.

The union’s divisional chairman, Jamal Abakhel, chaired the meeting, where Pesco union office-bearers from Lakki Marwat, Serai Gambila, Serai Naurang and Darra Pezu subdivisions were in attendance.

The speakers, including Mr Jamal, said all-out efforts would be made to improve arrear recoveries by tightening noose around defaulters.

They said Pesco employees would speed up their campaign against defaulters to enhance recoveries.

“Besides, workers will also work hard to overcome line losses and provide all sorts of relief to consumers,” a speaker said.

The speakers thanked Pesco chief executive Tariq Sadozai for allocating Rs50 million for TA bills and payment of halfway wages to employees.

They also appreciated the supply of fuel for vehicles and award of additional marks to employees, who could not qualify departmental examinations, saying these incentives will encourage Pesco workers to perform duty honestly.

Meanwhile, Saeedkhel Welfare Organisation office-bearers on Monday announced to help police check the firing in the air on chand raat and Eidul Fitr.

SWO president Malik Arshad Farooq, vice president Abdul Qayyum and general secretary Sardar Ali told a news conference here that firing in the air could harm people and therefore, people should avoid it. They also said the law banned celebratory firing.The speakers wanted local elders to come forward and cooperate with police in cracking down on those firing in the air.

They said action against such people would save public life from harm. They also said their organisation would launch a campaign to educate people about the dangers of the firing in the air.
