ITF turns down PTF’s request

ISLAMABAD, Dec 21: Pakistan Tennis Federation’s appeal to the game’s international governing body for a review of its decision to shift their home Davis Cup tie against New Zealand has been turned down.

The Feb 7 to 9 Asia Oceania Group I tie that was originally to take place in Lahore will now be held in Hamilton, New Zealand as had been decided by the ITF last week.

The tie was moved out of Pakistan because of security concerns, a decision that prompted the PTF to lodge an appeal saying the country was perfectly safe for sport.

However, PTF secretary Rashid Khan said Saturday that despite their best efforts, the ITF Board could not be convinced.

Meanwhile the second phase of the Davis Cup camp scheduled to start in Lahore from Jan 9 has been shifted to Islamabad’s PTF Complex.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) is to hold trials for selecting three players for the 2003 Junior Davis Cup, says a press release.

The trials to be held from Dec 28 at the PTF Complex are for players born between Jan 1, 1987 and Dec 30, 1990.
