ISLAMABAD: Governor Punjab Sardar Latif Khosa on Friday said that Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) believes in the supremacy of parliament and respects the judiciary.

Speaking to a private television channel, he said that the party respects all the national institutions including the Supreme Court.

The governor said the PPP has struggled for restoration of democracy and the judiciary.

Replying to a question, he said that National Reconciliation Ordinance (NRO) provided environment for smooth functioning of democracy, adding that dictatorship had to go out of the country due to reconciliation.

Khosa alleged that a lot of political and non political people including Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) chief Nawaz Sharif had received benefit from NRO.

Commenting on presidential immunity, he said heads of state enjoy immunity during serving the office in many countries around the world.

Khosa said that the PPP believes in strong democratic system and institutions and urged the opposition to work for strengthening democracy.

He said the PML-N is not following the Charter of Democracy (CoD) signed by its chief and Benazir Bhutto.

Moreover, the governor said that the cases made by the past regimes against President Asif Ali Zardari have proved false.
