PESHAWAR, Aug 7: Mohammad Khursheed Khan on Tuesday questioned the legality of his removal as deputy attorney general and said he had been sacked without justification.

He also declared illegal a show-cause notice issued to him by the Pakistan Bar Council for doing the dishes and polishing shoes of devotees at Indian shrines.

“The action against me is illegal. I have prepared a legal notice for a defamation suit and will shortly send it to PBC president Yaseen Azad through lawyer Abdur Rauf Rohila,” he told a news conference here at Peshawar Press Club.

The former DAG said he washed dishes and polished shoes as part of voluntary service at Hindu and Sikh shrines in India to promote inter-faith harmony.

“My voluntary services will always be there for all religions or sects to promote interfaith harmony and peace,” he said.

Mr Khan said the PBC president accompanied him during the Indian visit.

“During the visit, I did nothing to defame the country or tarnish its international image. Whatever I did there was to give India a positive message that Pakistan is a peaceful and loving nation,” he said.

The ex-DAG said he would lead a delegation of the representatives of Pakistani Hindus, Christians, Sikhs and Muslims to India soon at the invitation of Indian government.

“The tour will help promote Pakistan’s soft image in India besides removing misperceptions about it and its Muslim majority,” he said.

Mr Khan regretted that he was removed as DAG when he was overseas on a study tour.

“The de-notification order was served on me when I was on a visit to Nepal and Bhutan to do a research study. It is unfortunate,” he said.

The ex-DAG said he was no more deputy attorney general, so a free man.

“I will be in a right position to appear before the court in cases of land grab and illegal construction of restaurants at state property,” he said.

Mr Khan said he would continue fighting for the people’s rights and that the case against ‘Dewan-i-Khas’ at Ladies Club of University Town in Peshawar was not his personal and rather local community hired his services.

“I’ll continue supporting them (community) at all costs,” he said.

He said University Town residents believed that the Dewan-i-Khas lease had been granted in violation of law and therefore, he decided to plead their case before the court.

It merits mentioning here that the residents of University Town have filed a petition with the Peshawar High Court against the alleged illegal occupation of a public park owned by Ladies Club in the locality.
