ISLAMABAD: The government increased on Tuesday by up to 8.9 per cent prices of all transport fuels — petroleum products and CNG — with immediate effect and for 15 days to pass on the impact of international prices to consumers.

The highest 8.9 per cent increase has been made in the prices of petrol and CNG to maintain the price difference between the two competing fuels used by lower income group consumers using small cars, motorbikes and rickshaws.

The government again disregarded a recommendation of the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority to keep the prices unchanged to protect consumers from a new surge in prices of goods and transport fares.

According to the notification, the price of petrol has been increased by Rs7.66 per litre to Rs93.56 per litre.

The CNG price for Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Potohar and Balochistan (Zone-I) has been increased by Rs7.02 per kg to Rs85.67 per kg while its rates for Punjab and Sindh (Zone-II) have been increased by Rs6.34 per kg to Rs78.26 per kg. In both cases, CNG rates have been raised by 8.9 per cent.

The price of High Speed Diesel that was kept unchanged on July 15 has been increased by 4.7 per cent or Rs4.58 per litre. The HSD will now be sold at Rs101.79 per litre instead of Rs97.21.

The price of High Octane Blending Component (HOBC) has been raised by Rs7.64 to Rs120.16 per litre.

The price of kerosene has been increased by Rs4.64 to Rs92.83. Likewise, the price Light Diesel Oil has been jacked up by Rs4.78 per litre.

The prices of airline fuels have also been increased – new price of JP-1 will go up to Rs82.36 per litre from of Rs77.92, that of JP-4 will now rise to Rs74.04 from Rs69.31 and JP-8 to Rs82.05 per litre from Rs77.60.
