LAHORE, July 23: A delegation of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) led by Dr Farooq Sattar will visit Mansoora to meet Jamaat-i-Islami Chief Syed Munawar Hasan on Tuesday (today) at 11:30am.

The delegation comprising the MQM mainstream leaders, including Raza Haroon, Iftikhar Akbar Randhawa, Wasay Jalil and Waseem Khokhar, will convey a message of party chief Altaf Hussain.

“The visit is being paid in a follow up of Quaid-e-Tehreek Altaf Hussain’s recent speech to the nation in which he called for developing a consensus on safeguarding the country by creating unity among political and religious leadership of the country,” MQM’s Lahore media cell official Khurram Shahzad told Dawn.

When asked if the delegation would also discuss about any electoral alliance with the JI for the next general elections, he said there was no plan to discuss such political issues during the meeting.

“The core objective of the delegation is to meet the JI leadership for discussing and initiating efforts for creating unity among all political/religious leadership,” he said, adding that the delegation would also meet the PML-Q leadership soon in this regard. The JI leadership also confirmed a scheduled meeting of the MQM delegation with the JI chief.

ACCOUNTABILITY: JI Amir Syed Munawar Hasan has called for the accountability of the black sheep in the media and strict action against those found involved in corruption.

In a statement issued here on Monday, he said some media persons had filed petitions in the Supreme Court demanding a judicial inquiry into the allegations leveled against them.

They demanded that they be awarded exemplary punishment if they were found guilty otherwise those leveling allegations against them be placed in the dock.

Mr Hasan said instead of treating all the media men on a par it would be better to hold a thorough probe and find out the corrupt.

He urged Chief Justice Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry to set up a judicial commission to look into the allegations.

He said the apex court should also examine the working of PEMRA and check the dangerous trend of obscenity and immorality in TV channels.
