KARACHI, July 22: Rider Wasim stormed to a brace of victories as all but one favourites obliged the horse-racing fraternity in a five-race card of the Gymkhana race meeting at the Karachi Racecourse on Sunday.

Wasim’s first success came in the third race — class VII div III and IV run over five furlongs — when he partnered public fancy three-year-old dark bay colt Black Cobra to a three-length victory.

By virtue of this win over mare Dexterous, he also made amends for the preceding week’s loss at the hands of Fly To The Moon.

Filly Don’t Touch Me, who led the field of 13 horses after tur-ning the bend for home, was pus-hed to third place three-and-a- half lengths behind while mare Love For Sale completed the board.

He completed the double by guiding outsider mare Easy Match to triumph in the fifth and concluding race restricted for unknown pedigree horses.

The fast chasing victorious horse edged front runner colt Fakhr-e-Chanab by neck after the field was reduced to six contestants following withdrawal of debutant Innocent Baby.

Favourite Star To Win had to be content with third place, five lengths behind followed by Dancing Doll who finished a further six lengths away.

Racing Fire, Mere Hazoor and Fly To The Moon, all tipped by Dawn, produced sterling performance to justify their credentials.

Racing Fire made it two on the trot by getting the better of Sher Dil by six lengths to land the opener.

The winning horse was piloted home by Mohammad Essa.

In the next, seasoned jockey Ghulam Shabbir II guided colt Mere Hazoor to a three-length win over Star Watch. After the race, two riders — M. Manzoor (Lucky Gem) and Ashiq Ali II (Humsafar) — were suspended for two weeks and fined Rs5,000 apiece for ‘unsatisfactory’ riding.

Fly To The Moon, a three-year-old dark bay filly, galloped to two lengths victory over mare Bankable to claim the feature event, class VI and VII div I and II combined race. She was given a perfect ride by Zaki Zakir.
