LAHORE: Punjab police on Saturday revealed that a gang of dacoits, allegedly involved in bank robberies, provide financial support to Taliban militants, DawnNews reported.

DIG operations Lahore Rai Tahir claimed to have traced down a gang of 34 robbers, belonging to a nearby village of district Kohat, which is involved in funding local Taliban of the area.

Tahir said that they will soon officially request the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government to clampdown on the gang.

Punjab and specifically Lahore has witnessed a series of bank robberies in the recent past.

According to the DIG Tahir, the gang operates in separate groups and robs banks with prior planning.

The DIG also confirmed arrests of few members of the gang, who were captured with the help of CCTV footage obtained from the banks. The same gang looted 5.5 million rupees from a local bank on Thursday in Green Town area and took away the CCTV footage for hiding their identities, Tahir added.

The DIG vowed to crack down on the gang soon with the help of the KP government.
