JACOBABAD, July 20: Relatives foiled an attempt by criminals to kidnap a girl from her home in Jongal village of Thull area on Friday.

Reports reaching here said that gunmen had barged into the house of Abdul Ghaffar Sheikh and tried to kidnap his daughter Kulsoom, 15, but the family put up resistance and forced them to flee.

JIRGA: A jirga settled a dispute between the Soomro and Pahore communities by imposing Rs300,000 fine on a man branded as karo (adulterer) by a party in Mubarakpur on Thursday.

The jirga chaired by chiefs of the two communities, Mehboob Soomro and Khan Pahore, heard both the parties. Soomros accused one Munir Ahmed Pahore of committing adultery with a woman of their community in Jongal village.

In view of the available evidence the jirga declared Munir guilty and fined him Rs300,000. He paid the first instalment of Rs20,000 on the spot and settled the dispute, promising to clear the remaining amount in instalments.
