DADU, July 13: Five policemen have been booked for murdering a political activist Ashiq Brahamani and injuring 13 others during a protest demonstration near SSP Chowk a week ago.

The demonstration was held against police failure to arrest those who were involved in murder of Bashsir Brahamnai.

The case had been registered under sections 302, 324, 337, 34, 148 and 149 PPC by the A section police against writer head constable Mazhar Panhwar, head constable Saleh Almani, constable Shaheen Dawach and two other policemen.

The complaint had been lodged by bother of deceased and an activist of STP Zulfiqar Brahamani.

In his complaint he had stated that on July 5, residents of Wahi Pandhi were protesting against police failure to arrest killers of his cousin Bashir.

Police opened fire and killed his brother Ashiq and injured 13 others.

The injured included four women and a four-year old child. He nominated Mazhar Panhwar as the main accused.

SSP of Dadu, Dr Farooq Ahmed told Dawn that three policemen nominated in the case had been suspended, head constable Saleh Almani was arrested while other accused would be arrested soon. | He, however, defended ASP of City Sajid Mir and said that he was not involved in the murder.

His name was excluded because he took oath on Holy Quran by saying that he had not ordered policemen to open fire on protesters.
