ISLAMABAD: Fakhruddin G. Ebrahim, newly elected Chief Commissioner of Pakistan, on Tuesday said that he would strive to serve the countrymen and it would be his top priority to ensure free, fair and transparent general elections in the country.

Speaking to media representatives here, he said that he would hold meetings with all the political parties in this regard.

He also underlined the significance of the media and civil society during the upcoming general elections.

Replying to a question, he said that taking a decision over holding of elections would be taken by the prime minister.

He told that during his appearance before a bench headed by Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jillani, he was felicitated over his new assignment and he told the bench that he would utilize all his remaining energies for the service of his countrymen.

Future of the country is very bright, eras of darkness had become a past now, he expressed his optimism.
