LAHORE, July 7: Punjab Bar Council’s executive committee on Saturday suspended licences of eight lawyers on charges of ransacking the bar office and misbehaving with committee chairman.

The lawyers whose licences were suspended include Ms. Humera Bashir, Afaq Ahmed, Irshad Baig, Abdul Majeed Dogar, Hafiz Tariq, Shakeela Rana, Imrana Parveen Baloch, and Shahid Nadeem Shaukat.

A press release issued by the bar said executive committee chairman Rana Muhammad Asif Saeed was present in committee room along with other members for holding a meeting. Suddenly the aforementioned lawyers and 15 private persons entered the room and started throwing articles lying in the office on the chairman and other members.

The ‘attackers’ also abused the PbBC representatives.

However, sources said the entire drama started when the executive committee restored the licence of Advocate Arif of Burewala. Advocate Humera had filed a complaint against Advocate Arif on charges of slapping her. The committee had earlier suspended the licence of Arif. However, on Saturday, the committee restored his licence which provoked the other party. Employees of the bar council also tortured Advocate Humera and her supporters.

Ms Imrana Parveen Baloch, vice pesident of Supreme Court Bar Association, also announced filing an application with police for registration of a case against the PbBC leadership.
