KARACHI, July 6: A deputy superintendent of police, allegedly involved in a harassment case, was on Friday directed by the Sindh High Court to submit in court a notification of his promotion as DSP and earlier as inspector.

A division bench headed by Justice Syed Hasan Azhar Rizvi was seized with the petition of Ghulam Mustafa Korai, a resident of Naushero Feroze, who alleged that the area DSP, Allan Abbasi, was harassing him and his family members.

The petitioner submitted in the petition that the respondent DSP along with officials of the Moro police raided his house several times as he had implicated him and his family members in criminal cases.

He submitted that the respondent police official was holding the post of the official in charge of CIA illegally though he was in fact an assistant sub-inspector, who was given ‘shoulder promotions’ in violation of rules and regulations.

The petitioner submitted that DSP Abbasi’s promotion was also a violation of the Supreme Court judgment in the famous Waheeda Shah case.

He prayed to the court to restrain the respondent police officials from harassing him and his family members.

Meanwhile, the respondent DSP and officials of the Moro police submitted their respective comments denying allegations.

They submitted that the purpose of the petition was to prevent the police from taking any action against the petitioner and his family members as they were named in criminal cases registered at different police stations.

The respondents prayed to the court to dismiss the petition.

The bench adjourned the hearing to July 18 directing the DSP to place on record the notification regarding his promotion from inspector to DSP and restrained the police from harassing the petitioner and his family.
