HYDERABAD, July 5: Former PPP MNA Naheed Khan and former senator Dr Safdar Abbasi have said the PPP is losing its vote bank because party workers and the PPP leadership are not on the same page.
If the PPP lost its vote bank, it would not be easy for the party to regain the lost ground, Dr Safdar said.
Addressing a joint press conference at the local press club, they said the party had been confined to drawing rooms by leaders.
If the elections are held in a fair and transparent manner, many issues of people will be resolved.
They said the conflict between the apex court and the present government would not benefit the party and its workers; the government should avoid it.
They said it was high time that the party should be re-organised. It should be recognised among people while pursuing the vision of late Zulfikar Ali Bhutto.
They said Benazir Bhutto had followed the vision of Z.A. Bhutto for 30 years and Asif Ali Zardari must follow it.
Allies of the PPP were dominating it and those who were calling shots in the party were nowhere in 1977, they said, adding that they had no personal issues with Asif Ali Zardari.
Dr Safdar Abbasi said July 5 was observed as black day because Z. A. Bhutto’s government had been overthrown by a dictator on that day. PPP workers and supporters remember July 5, but perhaps rulers have forgotten it.
He complained that the workers who had sacrificed were not being treated well.
Naheed Khan said that nobody would be allowed to break party and “it is PPP which gave the slogan of Roti, Kapra Aur Makan”.
People were fed up with prolonged power outages, she said.
She said Asif Zardari was confined to his house because he might be facing serious threats to his life, but Benazir Bhutto had faced threats and always moved among masses.
