ROAD accidents have been on the rise. The main cause is rash and reckless driving. Buses race to beat one another.

Breaking signals is like child’s play. As most of the roads and turnings are bumpy and damaged, they help to cause horrible accidents. I suggest the following steps to improve the situation:

Police checkposts should be set up at short intervals to deter drivers from racing and overtaking.

Licences of drivers should be cancelled if they are found driving recklessly endangering lives and limbs of people. If bus drivers neglect the warning, their route permits should be cancelled.

The public should cooperate with the government. Passengers should ask drivers not to exceed the speed limit.

Motorcyclists and other vehicles should also be made to abide by traffic laws.

As Karachi is now overcrowded with traffic, it is necessary to widen and repair flyovers, bridges, underpasses and roads more frequently.
