KARAK, June 11: Elders of Banda Daud Shah tehsil here on Monday threatened to launch a movement of civil disobedience over their elected representatives’ failure to use oil and gas royalty and production bonus for their welfare.

The threat was issued during a meeting of Gurguri Islahi Tanzeem here at Tehsil Municipal Administration, Banda Daud Shah, hall, where Iqbal Faryadi was in the chair.

Noted among the speakers were former provincial minister Abdul Haleem Khattak and Gurguri Islahi Tanzeem general secretary Ghulam Amin, who said people of Banda Daud Shah would no more tolerate their exploitation by elected representatives and would force them into spending oil and gas royalty and production bonus for development instead of publicity and political objectives.

They said it was unfortunate that not a single medical specialist was present in the entire tehsil, while even the Tehsil Headquarters Hospital was without drinking water.

“This exposes misuse of funds by elected representatives,” Mr Khattak said.

The elders said the tehsil’s main road leading to the district headquarters was in ruins but local lawmakers spent development funds issued to them for public meetings and personal publicity.

They warned if their demand wasn’t met within a week, locals would begin a movement of civil disobedience movement and block entry of local lawmakers to the tehsil.

Participants decided that a campaign for public awareness of the misuse of funds would be launched across the tehsil soon.

Also in the day, lightening killed a girl, while five people were injured in a road accident.

Police said Madiha, 5, suffered severe burns after being struck by lightning in her house in Alikhel area of upper Chountra early on Monday.

They said the girl died before she was shifted to a health facility.

As for accident, police said a passenger coach overturned near Niazikhel Chowk after the driver tried to evade an animal on Indus Highway.

As a result, five passengers, including Musa Khan, Izat Gul, Abdus Saboor, Khan Gul and Rozina, all residents of Lakki Marwat district, suffered serious injuries. They were shifted to Tehsil Headquarters Hospital in Takht-i-Nusrati, where their treatment was underway until the last reports came in.

Meanwhile, a one-day free eye-testing camp was arranged at Teri town of TAL Block in Karak on Monday.

MOL Pakistan organised the camp in collaboration with Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital, Kohat.

DCO, Karak, Mohammad Zubair and EDO (health) and EDO (constructions and works) visited the camp and said the initiative would benefit eye patients a lot.
