ASF personnel booked

RAWALPINDI, June 1: Airport Security Force (ASF) personnel, who had a brawl with a Saudi military officer at Benazir Bhutto International Airport on Thursday, were booked by the local police on the charges of assaulting and hurling threats of dire consequences.

Group Captain Al Ashri Shukri of Saudi Air Force, who was attending a professional course at the National Defense University (NDU) Islamabad, lodged an FIR against “obdurate” officials of the ASF with the local police.

In a related move made by the ASF, a separate complaint was lodged by Idrees Khan, an ASF guard with the police to register a cross case against the Saudi officer. However, the police said the ASF’s complaint had not been entertained so far.

When the superintendent of police Potohar division Syed Haseeb Hussain Shah was contacted by Dawn he said: “The police will proceed according to the law and arrest the ASF personnel identified by the complainant.”—Staff Reporter

Family dispute claims 2 lives

CHAKWAL, June 1: A man killed his mother-in-law, brother-in-law and injured his wife on Friday over a family dispute.

The sources said that Rabia Bibi, the resident of Abuzar Colony was married to Israr Ahmad a few years ago. As the differences between the couple cropped up, Rabia Bibi left her husband and started living with her mother. She demanded divorce from her husband but he refused.

At this, she filed a petition in the court in this regard.

On Thursday, the court gave the verdict in her favour. Getting enraged at the verdict, Israr Ahmad stormed the house of his mother-in-law and opened indiscriminate fire at his wife and other relatives.

As he ran short of the bullets, he attacked them with a knife killing his mother-in-law Sardar Begum and brother-in-law Qaisar Khalil on the spot while his estranged wife sustained serious injuries. She was rushed to the DHQ hospital where she is under intensive care. — Correspondent

Masses problems addressed

FATEHJANG, June 1: An open katchehri was arranged by MPA Chaudhry Sher Ali Khan on Friday to get first hand knowledge of the problems faced by masses at Town Hall Fatehjang.

People came from all over the tehsil and pointed out their problems. The MPA assured the people that justice would be done to them at their doorstep. He further said the open katchehri was arranged to eradicate corruption from the society and solve the problems faced by the commoners.

He asked the heads of different government departments to complete their development programmes by June 15, positively. — Correspondent

Acid thrower arrested

MUZAFFARABAD, June 1: A man who had allegedly thrown acid on his spouse was arrested by the police on Friday, almost six months after the incident.

A police official, Arshad Naqvi, told Dawn that Mohammad Shafique was arrested by Kohala police as he entered the AJK territory through an old bridge over the River Jhelum only to avoid checking at a police check post in the area.

He threw acid on the face of his wife in February this year and was at large since then. — Staff Correspondent
