
In a Press statement issued here yesterday, he said that the liberal policy, which was followed during the last three years, had led more than 80 per cent industries of the country to operate at a minimum of 100 per cent of single-shift capacity, while they used to be working around 30 per cent capacity till the end of 1958.
Quoting figures, the Minister said that the re-rolling mills, which used to be licensed during the first half of 1959 at 30 per cent in East Pakistan and 14 per cent in West Pakistan, were now licensed at a minimum of 100 per cent of capacity with facilities for obtaining licences.
The business and industrial communities, he said, were familiar with the various phases through which the import policy passed before it developed its present liberal content.
Licensing of industries and essential commercial items was severely restricted even as recently as the end of 1958 and the beginning of 1959. The progress made during the last three years will be apparent from the comparative level of licensing applicable to some of the more important industries and consumer items during the first half of 1959 and the first half of 1962, he said. — Agencies
Formula to select Central Ministers DACCA: President Ayub Khan said here yesterday that he had evolved a simple formula of selecting Central Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries. The President said he would select one Minister and one Parliamentary Secretary from each of the four divisions of East Pakistan.
The President asked the newly elected members of the National and Provincial Assemblies from East Pakistan to apply their minds to the selection of the Central Ministers and Parliamentary Secretaries from East Pakistan and advise him about choosing the right men. He said the Speaker of the National Assembly will be selected from East Pakistan who should command the respect of the people and who should be a good man. — Agencies
