“A new strategy is being worked out to deal with culprits,” he said.

Karachi police chief Akhtar Hussain Gorchani said that a joint investigation team, led by SSP-East, had been formed to probe the targeted killing.

SP Shah Mohammad, who is said to have played an active role in the so-called Karachi Operation, and his friend Dr Dilshad Ghauri were targeted on Monday by armed men riding motorbikes outside his clinic in Bengali Para, Korangi No 3½. The SP’s security guard, constable Riaz, sustained gunshot wounds in the attack.

After Zuhar, the funeral prayers of Danish Bihari and Mufti Zeeshan, activists of the Ahl-i-Sunnat Wal Jamaat, were offered at the Jamia Masjid Siddique-i-Akbar in Nagan Chowrangi.

The two ASWJ activists were killed in a drive-by shooting in Zia Colony on Monday night.

A large number of people, including ASWJ leaders and scholars Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqui, Maulana Taj Hanfi and Maulana Tariq Mehmood, attended the funeral.

The participants in the funeral staged a protest demonstration against the killings and kept the bodies on the road, blocking traffic for some time. They shouted slogans and demanded the arrests of culprits.

Meanwhile, tension prevailed in Kharadar and its surrounding localities during the funeral of MQM supporter Mohammad Imran, who was gunned down late Monday night in Kharadar.
