KARACHI, May 26: Jamaat-i-Islami chief Syed Munawwar Hasan has warned that any attempt to restore the Nato supply line through Pakistan will be resisted by the Difa-i-Pakistan Council.

He said the United States wanted to convert the country into an unprotected land in order to carry out sabotage activities as it did in Salala. “We are ready to pay any price but will not allow the US and Nato to get reinforcement through Pakistan,” he said.

The JI chief was addressing a press briefing after a meeting of the DPC held at the Idara-i-Noor-i-Haq on Saturday.

“The rulers are pushing the entire nation into a corner while endorsing the US and Nato to continue with the genocide of Muslims of the region,” he said.

The JI chief also expressed his deep concern over the firing incident on a Sindhi nationalists’ rally in the city.

Commenting the firing incident on a passenger bus near Nawabshah, he said the government had failed to protect the people’s lives and the law-enforcement agencies had also failed to play their role in that regard.

The government, in his opinion, had lost its moral reasoning for staying in power.

He deplored that the religious seminary in Akora Khattak running under the auspices of Maulana Samiul Haq was also targeted by the government.

He said that the DPC had decided to carry out a Long March, details of which would be finalised in a meeting with DPC leaders at Akoora Khattak on June 5.

A workers’ convention would be held at New M.A. Jinnah Road, near Islamia College, which would be addressed by eminent DPC leaders, on Sunday. This would be followed by a token sit-in to be staged at all divisional headquarters on June 1.

He said that DPC parties believed in the supremacy of law and all of its programmes would be within the framework of the Constitution.

He said that all the parties in the DPC were absolutely peace-loving and would ensure all of its activities to be carried out peacefully.

Speaking on the occasion, Ameer Jamat-ud-Dawa Hafiz Mohammad Saeed said that the Long March was only postponed earlier because the leaders of the parties in the DPC had decided to use that tool on an appropriate occasion.

He said that it was not only the US but also India that was interfering in the country in order to destabilise Pakistan.

He said that Pakistan is a sovereign state that would never be allowed to become a market for Indian goods.
