MANSEHRA, May 20: Chief of his own faction of Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam Maulana Fazl Rehman has threatened to block supply of goods to Nato forces in Afghanistan by force if government ignores the conditions laid down by parliament in this regard.

“We have asked the government to follow the recommendations of parliament in restoring Nato supply otherwise we will resist it by force. JUI-F has already chalked out a comprehensive strategy in this regard,” he told a conference of his party in Battagram on Saturday.

Maulana Fazl delivered a short speech on the occasion amid tight security as rumours were in circulation that two suicides bombers had entered the city.

He said that America and Nato forces killed soldiers at Salala checkpost but the government wanted to restore supply of arms to them through Pakistan.

“If government wishes to restore Nato supply by its own to please America and Nato and bypasses the recommendations of parliamentary committee then it should get ready to face the consequences,” the JUI-F chief said.

He said that the apex court should deliver a clear verdict about the fate of the prime minister. “We agree with other political parties in their demand about resignation of prime minister on moral grounds but what we can do in these circumstances when court is silent about his fate,” said Mr Rehman.

He urged people to come out for enforcement of Sharia in the country. He said that people were bearing the brunt of the corruption of rulers.

Mr Rehman hoped that his party would win the next general elections.

PAY RAISE: The All Employees Coordination Council (AECC) has demanded of the government to make recommendations of Pay and Pension Commission part of next budget to raise salaries of government servants.

“We have been demanding implementation of the recommendations of the commission for the last three years but government is not paying any heed to our demand. If we are ignored this time, we will be left with no other option but to launch agitation against the government,” Khalid Zaman, provincial coordinator of AECC, told a press conference here on Sunday.

Flanked by AECC district president Mohammad Shah, he said that Prime Minster Yousuf Raza Gilani himself had constituted Pay and Pension Commission, headed by former governor of State Bank Ishrat Hussain, in 2008 to prepare recommendations for increase in salaries and other perks of the government employees.

“We are hopeful that government will make these recommendations part of next budget and provide relief to the employees, who are hit hard by price hike and inflation,” Mr Zaman said.

He said that the government employees would stage a sit-in outside Parliament House in Islamabad on May 25. He said that employees would launch an agitation against the government if prime minister did not make recommendations of the commission part of next budget.
