As the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) looks to finalise its decision on hiring a bowling coach, former Pakistani paceman Mohammad Akram and leg-spinner Mushtaq Ahmed have thrown their names into the hat.

According to reports, the list also includes former Bangladesh bowling coach Ian Pont, and former Pakistan players Jalaluddin, Mohsin Kamal and Sabih Azhar.

Intikhab Alam, who heads the committee formed for the purpose, said that the new bowling coach will be named prior to Pakistan’s six-week Sri Lanka tour which starts on June 1.

“We’ll convene a meeting this week,” Alam told a local newspaper.

“It will be crucial since we will shortlist the candidates. Hopefully, we will complete the process and announce the coach within a couple of weeks.”

Alam said the committee will ‘finalise the best candidate irrespective of the nationality’.

The post was left vacant following Aaqib Javed’s move to become the UAE head coach after the England series this year, and will largely focus upon Pakistan’s fast bowling resources.
