PESHAWAR, April 25: The residents of 25 ‘disputed’ villages, located along the border of Mohmand Agency, have said that more than 6,000 children in their area have not been administered drops during the current anti-polio campaign.

The president of Awami National Party in Mohmand Agency, Nisar Khan Mohmand, told a press conference here on Wednesday that government didn’t send polio teams to the area.

Flanked by other people of the area, he feared that polio could spread in the area if immediate attention was paid to it. He demanded of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor and officials of World Health Organisation to take notice of the situation and ensure provision of vaccine to the children in the neglected area.

The ANP leader said that the villages were declared disputed and that’s why officials of different districts were not paying attention to them. He demanded of the officials concerned to send health workers to the area to administer anti-polio drops to the children below the age of five to save them from disability.

Mr Mohmand demanded of the government to task the political administration to make serious efforts for elimination of the crippling disease in the area.

The administration would be responsible if any polio case surfaced in the area, he added.
