KARACHI: In a meeting with President Asif Ali Zardari, the delegation of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) has urged the president to conduct local body elections on immediate basis, DawnNews reported.
President Asif Ali Zardari held a meeting with the coalition partners here at Bilalwal House to review the law and order situation in Sindh.
The meeting was attended by Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik, Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Agha Siraj Durrani and Manzoor Wassan of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP), Senator Shahi Syed of Awami National Party (ANP), Governor Sindh Dr Ishrat ul Ibad, Farooq Sattar, Babar Ghouri and Raza Haroon of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM).
The coalition partners vowed to make every possible effort to maintain peace in the province.
The president said that he wants to contest the next elections with support of the coalition partners.
He also held a separate meeting with the MQM’s delegation.
Speaking to the media representatives after the meeting, MQM leader Raza Haroon said his party has demanded the president to hold the local body elections as soon as possible.
“The president was told that there was a lag in the implementation on the terms of consensus that was reached on the provincial level after the 18th amendment,” the MQM leader said.
“The president has issued orders to the chief minister Sindh in this regard,” he added.
