ISLAMABAD: Minster for Information and Broadcasting Dr Firdous Ashiq Awan Saturday said assigning the portfolios to the federal cabinet is the discretion of Prime Minister who forms team to better serve public interests.
“The Prime Minister has the powers to choose the players of his own choice. But the decision should only be in public interest,” said the information minister speaking to media representatives after attending a Rose Festival arranged by Pakistan National Rose Society.
The information minister said the cabinet members should strive to provide relief to the people regardless of “who gets what.” Any decision by the leadership would be acceptable to her, she added.
To a question, the information minister said the unanimous approval of recommendations by the parliament on new rules of engagement with the United States is a first step towards national solidarity.
However, she said the government would strive to implement the resolution as it is accountable before the parliament, assuring that the government would take no step that may put public interest at stake.
