ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court on Monday issued a contempt of court notice to the Additional Inspector General (AIG) Punjab Aslam Tareen in connection to the fake medicine case of Punjab institute of cardiology (PIC), DawnNews reported.

The ‘counterfeit medicine scandal’, that caused the deaths of at least 125 heart patients earlier in 2012, was heard by a two member bench chaired by Justice Tassaduq Hussain Jilani.

The attorney of the pharmaceutical company Khalid Ranjha reminded the apex court that the court had ordered on Jan 30 not to arrest anyone in this case.

“Regardless of the court orders, Shadman police station Lahore arrested nine people who had come from Karachi to cooperate in the investigations,” the attorney said.

The Station House Officer (SHO) Shadman police station said that he was not aware of the court’s orders and that he had obeyed the directions of the AIG Punjab.

The apex court issued a notice of contempt of court to the AIG Punjab for disobeying court’s orders.

The detainees in this case should be presented in front of magistrate in Lahore on Tuesday, the apex court ordered.

Moreover the SC ordered the Punjab government to present the investigation reports within three days.
