KARACHI, April 6: A seminary teacher was shot dead by unidentified gunmen in Surjani Town on Friday, police said.

They said that 55-year-old Maulana Naeem Sheikh, said to be an active member of the Tablighi Jamaat, was passing through Sector L-1 near Maymarabad Masjid within the remit of the Surjani Town police station when unidentified gunmen on two motorcycles targeted him.

The cleric suffered five bullet wounds and died on the spot, the police said.

The police took the body to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital for medico-legal formalities.

They said that the victim, who was a travel agent, was a resident of New Karachi Sector 5-C and also taught at Jalilia Madressah.

The police suspected a possible sectarian motive behind the killing.
