NEW DELHI: India will deploy at least 2,000 police personnel for Pakistan President Asif Ali Zardari’s visit to New Delhi and Ajmer, a report said on Friday.

Zardari will meet with Indian Prime Minister Manmohan Singh for a ‘quick’ lunch before setting off for Ajmer, where he will visit the shrine of Muslim saint Khawaja Moinuddin Chishti on Sunday, April 8.

Special units will be deployed atop high-rise buildings and along the route of the president’s convoy, an official was quoted as saying by the India Asia News Service. A three-tier security plan will be implemented during the visit.

“The outer circle security will be handled by Delhi Police in uniform while inner security will be handled by a special unit of Delhi police officers in plain clothes,” said Joint Commissioner of Police Taj Hasan.

President Zardari will arrive in the capital Sunday morning and have lunch with Prime Minister Manmohan Singh at his 7 Race Course Road official residence, which will be followed by talks.

Zardari will then leave for Ajmer, via Jaipur, to visit the shrine and spend half an hour there. Zardari, who will be the third Pakistani president to visit the Ajmer shrine, will leave for Islamabad late Sunday evening.
