LAHORE, April 5: Shadman police on Thursday took two policemen and a police razakar into custody for allegedly detaining two students of the Government College for Women, Gulberg.
DIG Mubashirullah, who began inquiry into the incident on the orders of the provincial chief executive, found moharrar (investigation) Akbar, constable Irfan and razakar Shahzad guilty of detaining the students, in preliminary investigations.
Students’ families lodged a protest outside Shadman Police Station and demanded stern action against the policemen as well as registration of an FIR against them.
The DIG visited the police station and recorded students’ statements. It was established in initial findings that the policemen drew cash by using ATM cards of the two girls.
Police claimed Afshan and Rabia, both residents of Nishtar Colony, were taken into custody along with two boys from a hotel on Monday.
However, families said the police picked up the girls from Racecourse Park and demanded Rs1 million after which a kidnap for ransom case was registered with Gulberg police. They said Shadman police registered a fake case against the girls and officially declared their arrest after the media aired the news.
According to the Model Town SP operations, the matter was being investigated and further action would be taken after completion of the inquiry.
