The “Full Circle Gallery” had its inaugural show on March 31, 2012 with an exhibition, titled “The Enchanting World of Tassaduq Sohail”.

The exhibition featured 39 paintings from the established artist, whose vivid, surreal work deals with themes such as “the world of dreams, fantasy, magic, and his recent infatuation with the beautiful bird ‘Lali’.”

The work displayed was diverse, ranging from busy, colourful pieces to stark canvases, painted in black-and-white.

“It almost seems the canvas is dancing in front of you when you step back and take a look at his painting,” said one of the organisers when describing the artist’s style.

The gallery was crowded with many friends and admirers who also had a chance to meet with the artist, and discuss his work with him.

“My father wanted me to marry and settle down and become another cog in the family wheel” said Sohail while talking to a visitor, “I ran from it all. I feel God only gives you one life, one opportunity. He gave me the opportunity to paint. There is no time for the worldly, I'm here to paint.”

Sohail, 75, is a celebrated artist whose work will also be featured permanently in the Full Circle’s “dedicated gallery space for legendary artists”.

The current exhibition will run till April 21 (excluding Sundays and public holidays) from 11-7 PM, at the Full Circle Gallery in Clifton, Karachi. – Text and Photos by Nadir Siddiqui/Dawn.com
