Two killed

TAXILA, March 31: Two persons including a woman were shot dead while two others were injured in separate incidents in the limits of Hassanabdal police station on Saturday.

In the first incident, Ahktar Mehmood exchanged hot words with his brother Chanzaib in Bohi village. Later, he along with his uncle, Mohammad Ashaq attacked his brother and shot him dead.

In the second incident, Ali Arif along with Khalid Younas attacked his rivals Asad Hussain, Sana Bibi and Zubaida Bibi in Kohali village. Resultantly they received multiple injuries and were shifted to THQ hospital where Sana Bibi succumbed to her injuries while Asad Hussain and Zubaida Bibi were shifted to DHQ hospital Rawalpindi due to their critical condition. Police registered two separate cases against the accused and started investigations. — Correspondent

Woman tortured

ISLAMABAD, March 31: A woman was subjected to torture by her former husband in the capital’s rural area, police said on Saturday.

Saba Bibi told the police that her former husband Sajid Khan along with nine persons, including five women, raided her house at Usmanabad in Bhara Kahu on March 25 and abducted her.

They took her to the hills and subjected her to severe torture. She remained in their custody for a few days during which her head was also shaved off.

Later, she was taken to Abbottabad and released there. She returned to the capital city on Friday and lodged a complaint with the police.

The police quoted her as saying that out of the five women, two were Khan’s wives.

She alleged that Khan used her as a carrier of narcotics from Pirwadhai bus terminal to her house. However, after separation, she refused to transport the narcotics for him anymore. On March 25, he again asked her to bring the drugs from Pirwadhai but she refused. — Staff Reporter

Students’ week concludes

RAWALPINDI, March 31: Students’ week at Pir Mehr Ali Shah Arid Agriculture University, Rawalpindi (PMAS-AAUR) concluded on Saturday.

The week, which was participated by 15 universities, started on March 27. Different competitions including software programming, video games, documentary/photography, poster, flower arrangement, Punjabi debates, sports, drama, art exhibition, food festival and inter-universities Qirat, Na’at and bilingual declamation contests were held during the week.

Chief Guest Prof. Muhammad Munir, Vice Chancellor of PMAS-AAUR gave away shields and certificates among the winners. — Our Reporter

Traders protest power outages

MUZAFFARABAD, March 31: Traders observed a complete shutter-down strike and staged a rally on Saturday to protest unscheduled electricity loadshedding in AJK.

On the call given by their associations, the traders from various markets assembled at Aziz Hotel Chowk from where they marched through the Bank Road towards the Wapda grid station in Bela Noor Shah.

Just across the Neelum Bridge, heavy contingents of police erected barriers to prevent the demonstrators from reaching the grid station.

Near the barricades, the traders assembled in large number and the speakers on the occasion, took strong exception to Wapda for what they alleged meting out “step-motherly treatment” to the people of Azad Kashmir despite their sacrifices to reduce energy crisis in Pakistan.— Staff Correspondent
