PESHAWAR: Federal Interior Minister Rehman Malik on Thursday said that reports of Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz’s (PML-N) alleged corruption in Punjab are currently being investigated, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to media representatives outside the Frontier Corps office in Peshawar, Malik alleged that PML-N was involved in corruption when it started a campaign of ‘qarz utaro, mulk sanwaro’ , when they were in power. Loans of the big factories were paid off through the Bank of Punjab, he said.

The investigations of these scams are in process, the interior minister said.

Speaking on sacrifices of the police in the war on terror, Malik commended the efforts of the police and said that police officials who were engaged in the fight with the militants are the real ‘mujahids’.

Malik said that there are speculations that the chief of banned Lashkar-i-Islam (LI), Mangal Bagh has been killed but these speculations might be wrong; investigations are underway to find out the truth.

Earlier on Monday there were reports about the death of the commander of LI as Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Inspector General of Police Akbar Khan Hoti claimed that Mangal Bagh is dead. A spokesman for LI rejected the claim, saying the militant commander is alive.
