LONDON, March 20: Former US Open champion Juan Martin Del Potro confirmed on Tuesday he will compete in this year’s Wimbledon warm-up event at Queen’s Club.

The Argentine, who beat Roger Federer to win the title at Flushing Meadows in 2009, will join defending champion Andy Murray and last year’s runner-up Jo-Wilfried Tsonga at the grass-court tournament which runs from June 11 to 17.

Del Potro, 23, has played at Queen’s twice before, reaching the third round last year, while his best performance at Wimbledon also came in 2011 when he lost a close match against Rafael Nadal in the last 16.

“I like the surface. I’m not a grass-court specialist but I’m improving,” he said. “The AEGON Championships at Queen’s is an amazing tournament, very nice to come to, to play, to train and I will be there for sure trying to win my first title on grass.”—AFP
