HYDERABAD: Federal Minister for Water and Power Syed Naveed Qamar has said that many political problems in the country were being fomented by vested interests which sought to prevent senate elections in the country.
“The PPP sailed through all the obstacles and will secure the largest number of seats in the senate,” the minister said while talking to the reporters at Bukhari House in Tando Muhammad Khan on Monday.
The minister said that the government was acting in the light of the country's constitution and that any amendment in statute will be brought through consensus.
Talking about the Balochistan situation, Qamar said the government had initiated Aghaz-i-Huqooq Balochistan package to start the process of reconciling the disgruntled people.
“The existing resentment grew over the past six decades and, hence, will take some time to redress,” he said adding that the government was committed to addressing all the concerns of the Balochi people.
“Giving provincial autonomy is a step in that direction,” he said. Qamar said that one of the reasons of the complaints of people in the smaller provinces was that they are not represented by their elected representatives.
That concern had been addressed through the 20th constitutional amendment which ensures free, fair and transparent elections as well as the revision of the voters list according to the electronic data available with NADRA.
The minister clarified a statement attributed to him which claimed that there would be no loadshedding in the country.
“I did not say this,” he clarified.
Qamar said that power sector reforms were being made to address the energy shortage through more power generation.
